What Is The American Legion?

The American Legion was founded by veterans to continue serving after their military service ended.
At Speedway American Legion Post 500, that service takes many forms:
  • Supporting veterans and their families
  • Supporting first responders and the military
  • Providing scholarships and youth programs
  • Strengthening the Speedway community
  • Promoting patriotism and citizenship

Jason M. Corlette

POST 500 COMMANDER

Jason M. Corlette was elected Commander of Speedway American Legion Post 500 in April 2026. He is honored and grateful for the trust and support shown by the membership and looks forward to leading the Post into its next chapter of service, camaraderie, and community involvement. Commander Corlette is a proud United States Navy veteran who served an eight-year enlistment consisting of two years of active duty followed by six years in the Naval Reserve, a service option commonly offered during the Gulf War era. During his active-duty service aboard the USS Detroit (AOE-4) from June 1991 through June 1993, he maintained and operated fuel rigs used in underway replenishment operations supporting naval forces at sea. In addition to his military service, Commander Corlette brings extensive leadership and management experience from both corporate and family-owned businesses. His background in team development, operations, and organizational leadership provides a strong foundation for guiding Post 500 and supporting its continued success. Commander Corlette is committed to working closely with the Post's employees, Legionnaires, Sons of the American Legion, Auxiliary members, Legion Riders, and volunteers whose dedication and hard work make Post 500 a thriving organization. He recognizes that each organization plays a vital role in supporting veterans, strengthening the Post, and serving the local community. He looks forward to fostering a spirit of unity, respect, transparency, and teamwork while honoring the traditions and values of The American Legion. By encouraging collaboration among all members and affiliated organizations, Commander Corlette hopes to build upon the strong foundation established by those who came before him while ensuring a bright future for Speedway Post 500. Together, Commander Corlette and the members of Speedway American Legion Post 500 will continue to serve veterans, support the community, promote patriotism, and strengthen the Post's longstanding tradition of service and fellowship.
